My father is now 86 years old and even though I've said it many times to his face, I am compelled to thank him again. Our recent visit over the Holidays reminded me again of how blessed I am to be his son. He was the catcher who woke me up early in the mornings before he went to work so I could practice pitching. He was the Dad who gave up his weekend to be with me on the Father-son overnight camping trips with the Scout troop. Dad teed it up with me on the golf course and joined me in the swimming pool. He corrected my shortcomings (sometimes painfully) and consistently taught me right from wrong. Dad didn't preach, he -lives- the life we learned about every Sunday in Church. He is rich without great wealth, at peace in difficult times, and alive with purpose even in his later years. Dad, as a father and more recently a grandfather, I am moved again to say thanks! You're the man I want to be. |
