Omaha first snow

The flurries this morning added up to about .75" in my backyard. The "flurries" hung around for about three hours and at one point from 8:30am to 10am the visibility dropped to about 3/4 mile.  What I have always found interesting is the perception of the weather  forecast.  Case in point, it's situations like this where a relatively minimal event can have a major impact.  The reason is the first snowfall of the season, regardless of the amount,  combined with preceding record high temperatures typically causes a number of accidents.  We have not had measurable precip this month until today so there is likely some oil on the streets, especially from the record highs in the 70's on Monday.

Do flurries in a forecast  cover .50" of snow?  A viewer wrote in that this was more than flurries in his area.  When asked how much was on the ground, he replied, it can't be measured.

Enjoy the snow!  This will likely be it for a while.

WE are supposed to play soccer in Omaha tomorrow morning. How much snow did you get and is the ground still covered? We play at Tranquility Park, does any one know the conditions? Thanks for your help!

I must say, we didnt get our snow as forcasted. Keep in mind Jim, your typical educated viewer realizes that weather changes on a moments notice and is very unpredictable. Keep up the good work!!

the "Flurries" the other day and the prospect of our first "real" snow fall fast approaching brought up some intresting conversation at work. What is the most / largest snow fall in a 24 hour period in Omaha??

I'm not a winter person, but even I have to admit that this first snow was pretty. Of course, if we were in the month of February, I'd have a totally different perspective on it.........

I'm going to have to argue that the snow yesterday was more than flurries. I measured exactly one inch of snow in my backyard and the visibility was also rather low at times. That seems to suggest light snow rather than flurries. Just my two cents.
