Maybe My Dog Was Trying to Read?

Maybe my little dog Bailey was trying to read the other day and his teeth just got in the way.  That is probably not the case though, but if it was, wouldn't that be a story!  But dogs do the darnedest things, don't they?  Just when you think they're all grown up and out of their "bad dog" stage, they have to surprise you.  And surprise cost me an apology to the Omaha Library.

My fiance and I are on the hunt for the perfect honeymoon location, so we decided to check out a stack of travel books from the library.  There are books on locations like Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe.  I think Bailey just wanted to choose for us.  Obviously he thinks Hungary is the place to go, or maybe he is against it?  Regardless, when I came home the other day there was the book on Hungary, no longer on the living room table but now on the floor.  And did I mention half the cover was chewed off.  Bad dog!

I never used the line "my dog ate my homework" in school, but now I've gotten the chance to tell the library people my dog ate your book.  Just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?  I've told Bailey he'll miss out on the next $16 worth of dog treats (that's what the replacement price was), but I'm sure he just laughed.  He knows I'm a softy.

So do any of you have a "bad dog" story?  What about a cute dog story?

We have very intelligent dogs in our house and they have been known to devour library books. Of course they don't settle for the $10-$20 ones, no, they like the $70 ones. We have paid for more than one book. Not to be wasteful I have kept the books for our home library dog-eared or not. We have also come home and found the Sunday Paper strewn about - we are sure they were looking for the comics.

We have a beautiful Golden Retriever and the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. Mindy likes to sleep on our bed in the daytime. I left my $400.00 pair of eyeglasses on my nightstand. When I got home that night they were laying on my bed a mangled mess. She hadn't done anything like that before or since. She was 3 yrs. then and is four now. The good news was, I hadn't had a eye exam for three years and I needed one. She is a good dog and looks after me, but now I make sure my eyeglasses are out of her reach just in (their) case.
