I recently had the opportunity to interview Chris Hefling. Hefling lives here in the Metro, and he has taken a few instances in his life and turned them into a world-wide tool to help others. He created MyHopeSpace.com.
Hefling's family was touched by cancer in 2006 when he father-in-law died from it. In fact, MyHopeSpace.com is dedicated to the memory of Darrell Lee Lind. Since then, cancer touched Chris Hefling in another way- inspiration. He met a young
Nebraska
man who was battling a rare form of brain cancer. This young man lived in a small town and had no one to talk to on a regular basis about his cancer and how it affected every aspect of his life. His story inspired Hefling.
MyHopeSpace.com is a website for anyone affected by cancer, whether you are a patient, a family member, a care giver or a friend. Hefling has spent countless hours and and his own money to get this website up and running. I think it's a wonderful accomplishment. The website offers people a place to learn, a place to listen and a place to talk. If you've never had your life touched by cancer in some way, you might not understand how devastating it is for everyone involved. I currently have a family member battling two forms of cancer and I can see how helpful this website could be. Hopefully it can offer the support some people really need to find, even if it's just emotionally.
Hefling's website is in its early stages right now, just a few registered users, but if you've been touched by cancer in some way, log on and check it out. You might find a kind word or an inspiring thought there. It's www.myhopespace.com.
I wonder if any of you have a story about someone who found inspiration in another person's story or out of a hardship and then took that inspiration and did something wonderful with it?
