First it was our good friend Scott Akin who left last year. Now another great guy is leaving. Michael Born has worked some of the most difficult schedules known to mankind over the past few years but you would never know it. He has a bounce in his step and a smile on his face every time you see him. Michael is one of the good people we are all fortunate enough to meet during our journey through life.
Here's an example of what I mean. Last week Michael worked his typical shift, arriving at 2 a.m. and leaving around 11 a.m. After a quick nap he was at my house by 1:00 to help me with some computer problems I was having. Actually, he just wanted to make sure my PC was secure and was willing to spend the better part of three hours updating software and cleaning out my hard drive. Throughout the process we took turns wrestling with my son Matthew and teaching him martial arts techniques. When that was through Michael was off to visit his girlfriend for about an hour and later that night he attended a bible study group that didn't wrap up until 9 p.m. Then it was back home to catch a few hours of sleep before repeating that process the next day.
Michael is one of the rare exceptions in life. A person who's word still means something, someone who you can depend on and someone you are proud to call a friend. We will miss him (even the singing and dancing during commercials) on Daybreak and we know he will miss all of the friends he has at WOWT and throughout Omaha. One thing I know he won't miss are the insane hours he has worked. Michael deserves the best in life and we wish him all the best in claiming it.
