We've Run Off Another Meteorologist!

First it was our good friend Scott Akin who left last year.  Now another great guy is leaving.  Michael Born has worked some of the most difficult schedules known to mankind over the past few years but you would never know it.  He has a bounce in his step and a smile on his face every time you see him.  Michael is one of the good people we are all fortunate enough to meet during our journey through life.

Here's an example of what I mean.  Last week Michael worked his typical shift, arriving at 2 a.m. and leaving around 11 a.m.   After a quick nap he was at my house by 1:00 to help me with some computer problems I was having.  Actually, he just wanted to make sure my PC was secure and was willing to spend the better part of three hours updating software and cleaning out my hard drive.  Throughout the process we took turns wrestling with my son Matthew and teaching him martial arts techniques.  When that was through Michael was off to visit his girlfriend for about an hour and later that night he attended a bible study group that didn't wrap up until 9 p.m.  Then it was back home to catch a few hours of sleep before repeating that process the next day.

Michael is one of the rare exceptions in life.  A person who's word still means something, someone who you can depend on and someone you are proud to call a friend.  We will miss him (even the singing and dancing during commercials) on Daybreak and we know he will miss all of the friends he has at WOWT and throughout Omaha.  One thing I know he won't miss are the insane hours he has worked.  Michael deserves the best in life and we wish him all the best in claiming it.

Well this is horrible news. Michael is the only reason to get up in the morning, and the only reason to tune in to channel 6's morning news. Not only does he know his stuff, he's very pleasing to the eye. Looks like I'll be sleeping in til noon from now on.

We will all miss Michael, he has done a outstanding job. He makes his job fun, and always has a smile on his face. He came to Stanton Elementry school, and they just loved him. I have met him personally and he is just a great guy. We wish him the best. The Vanderholm's

That is a shame. Thanks for the post Jim S! That is the kind of guy I imagined him to be. I wish him well and he will be missed.

What happened to the blog entry that Michael Born added himself?

Was so shocked to hear of Michael's leaving. I understand that he's going to make a huge career advance and we wish him all the best. We'll miss his smile every morning no matter how horrid the weather. My son has actually considered a career in Meterology and was even more impressed that he may someday too be offered a position such as the one Michael is now undertaking. Again, ALL THE BEST! Michael will be missed and hard to replace. I enjoy your entire team when I'm either getting ready in the morning or listening in the car. The three of you make a great team and it's going to be hard to find another great fit.

Michael, was sorry to hear you are leaving us. You are part of my morning routine and have been part of one of the best weather teams - responsive to e-mail inquiries re: weather where I travel to, etc. Best wishes on your career path !

We've appreciated Michael Bourn's weather forecasts and all the ways he has presented himself during his time in Omaha. We watch channel 6 faithfully and try to keep up with who's new and who's leaving. We assume Michael is taking a job as a chief meteroligist in Wisconsin ? Wishing him the best. Sincerely , Jim & Rowena

This is such sad news for morning viewers! I truly appreciate the few newspeople and meteorologists that let their personalities come through to the folks on the other side of the tube, while still delivering us the updates we need in a professional way, and Michael Born was one of them. Thanks to Jim for giving us a peek at what Michael is like personally and what he means to people who know him. What a nice tribute to your friend and co-worker. Best wishes Michael Born - Omaha will miss you!

Good luck, Michael. I hate to see you leave as I enjoy hearing your forecasts and your accuracy. I also enjoy hearing about the different creative activities that you share with us that are going on in the city. Good luck an best wishes always.

I was just thinking of Scott Akin the other day and now Michael Born. Where's he going? And more importantly did you try to retaining these guys? How about switching up the schedule a bit? Those are some rough hours. I'd leave too!!! Too bad they were both good forecasters!!!

Where is Michael running off to? Good luck in the future Michael, and you will be missed by many people who watch you everyday!

Posted by: Diane Just wanted to wish Michael Born the best of luck in his new career. I really enjoyed watching him while I was getting my family ready for school and myself ready for work. He, as does the rest of the morning team, gives me that positive boost to get my day going. Thanks you. Diane

Michael, Will really miss seeing you as part of the Daybreak crew. Heard you are going to Wisconsin so we might see you broadcasting from a station there as we are also moving to Wisconsin as soon as we can sell our home in La vista. Good luck!

Have thoroughly enjoyed watching Michael Born in the wee hours of the morning while I get my work done. He is a great weatherman and is always very gracious and down to earth. I always look forward to his advise on dressing the kids for school and taking care with the snow, ice, rain, etc. Wishing him the very best of luck in his move to Wisconsin....Channel 6 will have a tough time replacing Michael.
