It has been another active severe weather day for the Southern Plains.  As of 8pm tonight there have been six tornado reports in southwest Kansas as well as one in northeast Arkansas.  We had our severe thunderstorms both last Friday and Sunday but luckily nothing tornadic developed.  However, it has been south of us that has really taken a beating over the last week.  Numerous tornado reports came in over the weekend for Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.  Not to mention the major flooding concerns in Houston thanks to the heavy rain producing storms.

West/central Nebraska is under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms through tonight.  Right now thundershowers are just starting to pop up north and west of North Platte.  We'll see what develops overnight.  The 12z models had that instability developing into heavy rain producing t-storms south and west of us overnight before collapsing around daybreak.  That still leaves us dry for the metro which is fine for us meteorologists.  We got enough rain Sunday!

I hope everyone has their NOAA weather radio ready for the rest of the spring/summer season.  They really are the best tool you can have to stay prepared during severe weather.  We just programmed one here in the weather office so another signal is available to alert us.

Here's a map of what the Storm Prediction Center has for todays reports:
