Sunday, my wife leaned over in the church pew and whispered, "I'm not ready for this yet." As the pianist played "Pomp and Circumstance", a handful of youngsters, struggling to keep their paper hats on their head, meandered down the aisle. It was Sunday School graduation day. They received certificates, sang a collection of songs and even moved their tassels from side to side. Both of us were thinking -- he hasn't even lost a tooth yet and here is our little man going through the motions of graduating. When you are a new parent, the experienced ones always offer the advice that all of this child-rearing will go so fast. I remember smiling a thankful smile but also thinking -- I'm sure I'll be able to savor and soak in the moments and it will feel like a slow-motion scrapbook. No matter how hard you try to slow down life, it doesn't pause and wait for us to catch up. Maybe that's why I take so many pictures. It gives me the illusion of stopping time -- if for an instant.
