The other day my son, who is in kindergarten, came home from school and told my wife that one of the first graders said the dreaded *F* word.

She reacted with a gasp, of course.

After that, she calmly asked what exactly was said.

My son said he did not dare repeat it -- knowing it was clearly wrong and he would be in big trouble for it.

My wife said that he was in the clear since his mom was asking for details on what happened so that we could examine the circumstances and help him understand why it was wrong.

He paused and took a deep breath.

And then he said, "The boy said fart."

My wife tried to hide the laugh that was about to burst from inside.  She gathered enough strength to tell him that he was right -- the boy should not have said that in school.  And thanked him for sharing the lesson.

There will be another day -- hopefully in a few years -- before the other dreaded word comes a calling.
