Before I came in to work today, my son was helping me clean out the garage. A busy weekend of 4th of July get-togethers had made it a mess.
After we swept out the dust and debris -- some fireworks pieces that had blown in -- he had a suggestion. "Let's start the fire pit!"
It seemed like a ludicrous idea I thought.
First, it's sunny and in the mid-80's. Second, it's noon!
And as I was about to say as much I thought, "Why not?"
There was really no harm in it.
In fact, we actually turned into a pleasant moment for father and son.
We moved the fire pit into the driveway, put on some cedar wood chunks and set it ablaze.
We grabbed a couple of chairs and then I figured, "Why not turn this into a camping?"
I grabbed a couple of skewers and put some hot dogs on them. (He suggested hamburgers)
That would be our lunch.
It was fast, different, entertaining and memorable. One of those little things that I could have easily rejected (and I often do).
Now the question -- what do I say when he suggests the same thing tomorrow?
