Our photographer and several fans pointed out an interesting abbreviation at the Omaha Nighthawks game last night. Before the game began, we noticed it on one of the smaller scoreboards between the upper and lower decks. There's not enough room to use the full names of the Omaha Nighthawks and the Virginia Destroyers, so Nighthawks staff abbreviated. Abbreviations can sometimes lead to confusion -- even humor. The scoreboard at the beginning of the game said, "ONH" for the Nighthawks and "VD" for the Virginia Destroyers.
VD? We started thinking about all the mock headlines you could use with it. Some fans offered their thoughts. Such as: VD Stuns the Nighthawks Nighthawks just can't shake VD VD keeps fans away on opening night I'm not sure when it changed but we noticed at the end of the game -- both abbreviations were different. It now read, "VIR" and "OMA." Like any abbreviation, I'm sure someone could come up with their own version of silly interpretations. The first one was just too easy.
