In college, professors always said there was never a stupid question -- only stupid answers. I'm torn by this because I've heard some of those questions being asked during a news conference or a breaking news interview and I come to the same conclusion many others do. Sometimes the dumb question is forgotten though because it sparked a great answer. Sometimes you don't even have to ask a question to get an answer. I've been there. Usually the public never hears or sees the questions -- just the answers. But in this age of 24/7 news, the viewer is in a position to see all sorts of questions from major media to hosts to local reporters. Here was an exchange last night at Seymour Smith Park: Police Chief Alex Hayes: “We’re still trying to figure out what led up to the conflict here in the park.” Another Reporter: “How do you know it was a conflict?” Chief Hayes: “Because somebody got shot.” |
