I love reading the words of my son's kindergarten class and trying to figure out what it says. The children spend a lot of time on their journals writing sentences where they know how to say the word but, not necessarily, how to spell it. The teacher has an inside track in what I call a "Kindergarten-to-English" dictionary. Parents -- not so much. If I have to ask my son what something says, he looks at me incredulously -- takes a deep breath and then explains why it's so obvious. As the year has gone on, I'm getting better in recognizing the words. This handwritten example for Mother's Day was one of the easier ones.
