Last week the Millard School Board heard recommendations from a security consultant regarding making the district safer.

There was a tidbit that I thought was amusing during the lengthy presentation regarding the Millard Safe School Hotline.

Most of the discussion was serious as can be expected but there was some levity.

When the school security guy talked about use of the Safe School Hotline, he put up a graph indicating it was used 47 times in the 2008-09 school year; 20 times for 2009-2010; and 30 times during 2010-11.

The Hotline is supposed to be a place to report critical issues.

One of the board members asked about the types of calls.  The school employee told the board of examples where the calls were about possible suicides or cases of harassment at school.

He also pointed out one phone call where a student warned that another student wasn't going to march in drum line at Millard North.

I guess, we all have different levels of a crisis -- don't we.
