Every year, I read to a number of classes in the area on Dr. Seuss' birthday -- also known as Read Across America. It's a way to share the importance of reading by having the community share some tales with the students. This year was different and cool for another reason. For the first time, I was able to read to my son's class since he is in kindergarten. Elkhorn Public Schools know how to pull out the behind-the-scene stops for a big group of listeners too. The 5 kindergarten classes piled into the cafeteria in two waves. Staff hooked up a projector so that the youngsters could see the pages of the book blown up on the wall. They even had a microphone to capture every word. (and with Dr. Seuss there are a lot of them!) I read two books: Green Eggs and Ham (many of them cringed when I reminded them that it was also a course for lunch that day) and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (that wasn't on the menu).
