Several weeks ago, this station changed up the work area of reporters, producers and photographers. Thus, live reports we do from this part of the building are in the middle of the room. Some of us are still getting used to the difference. We all understand that since we work at a television station, we have to be aware of our surroundings -- the camera and microphones. Work is work -- and sometimes we forget the other stuff. This week during our 6pm news, while I'm live in the newsroom, I suddenly have a co-anchor. An engineer walked right up next to me and towards the camera during the story. In essence, he made his television debut. He didn't realize were were on-air. Things like this happen when your job is broadcast to tens-of-thousands of people every night so it's really no big deal in the grand scheme of things. This one we sort of can control. Unlike the folks who flash signs in the back of a live shot, blast their horns or just generally scream at any live truck they see. I wonder if there's a word for that disorder?
