This summer my mom asked me to put together something she ordered for their new house -- a hall tree. I had no idea what she was talking about. I thought it was something I had missed in the decorating landscape. So when I opened the box, it became perfectly clear what I was constructing -- a coat rack. It always cracks me up when marketers or promoters decide, for whatever reason, that an old name just doesn't ring true in the current climate. This seemed like one of them. When I brought this up to my mom she told me the story of when they were furniture shopping. My dad stopped a clerk and asked her where he could find the davenports. Without missing a beat, she led them to the sofas. Brian |
