Last night as if it were ripped straight from a marathon session of the former hit TV show, My Name is Earl, a former inmate said he did what he did because of karma. Travis Hodge had just been released from jail yesterday after a 23-day stint inside for felony burglary and theft by receiving. He got out early because he had been accepted for Drug Court. Drug Court is for non-violent offenders who, investigators believe, have a chance to turn their lives around with a fresh start. It didn't take long for Travis Hodge to get going. Last night around 6:30, he was getting cigarettes at the tobacco shop at 16th and Vinton when a customer ran in talking about the hold-up of the grocery story/restaurant across the street. Instead of running away, Hodge ran towards the danger and with a police officer not far behind, tackled one of the alleged robbers and held him down as he waited for the officer to cuff the guy. "It’s a good deed for me and karma," said Travis Hodge. "I didn’t think about a gun. I wanted to do a good deed." While many people can argue it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do considering one of the suspects had a gun, investigators made sure they shook his hand and thanked him. Brian |
