One of the favorite parts of Halloween for my son is the fear factor. He acts like he doesn't want to go to the house decorated with skeletons and spiderwebs; caskets and creepy noises but deep inside he loves the idea of getting scared. So the other day a good friend got him a flashlight that works like a glow stick and would work perfectly while he goes trick-or-treating. Of course, my son had to try it out first. We went to the zoo and headed for Kingdoms of the Night. It's the dark and spooky area below the Desert Dome filled with snakes and bats and alligators. My son wore his glow stick around his neck. As we walked down the steps into the darkness he told me, "Dad, I'm not scared to go down here today. I still like to hold your hand though and I don't know why. That's funny." I thought so too.
