I've been listening to books more than reading them these days.  The commute to and from work flies by that way.  I used to reserve books on tape only for long drives.

Recently, I finished listening to Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell.  It's a terribly interesting read.

The point of the book is a simple one -- the judgments we make at a glance or in those first few moments we see or hear or smell something.  One example he uses is how committees and scientists sometimes reach a wrong decision after months of pondering when someone who saw the same thing came to the opposite conclusion in an instance.  Something told them the answer and later on you realize you were right and the experts were wrong.

How does that work?  That's the point of the book.  Whether it's a gut instinct or intuition or cognitive skills we've developed over the years and didn't even know it -- those decisions we make without really even thinking it seems can be powerful and spot on.  It's a thinking book without hurting your brain.

ps...colleagues of mine said the book was an intricate read.  Perhaps the audiobook would be better.
