Are you kidding me?

That was my wife's reaction when I told her about this story last night.  If you haven't heard, Wednesday night, an Iowa State Patrol plane clocked a motorcycle going 188mph in a 70mph zone on I-29 North of Council Bluffs -- and 171mph in a 55mph construction zone.

While I'm not making a judgment on the behavior since this will all ultimately play out in court -- one thing is certain when you talk with others about it -- the guy is lucky he's still alive after the 33 mile journey.

We saw the motorcycle in question speeding by the Civic Auditorium exit and I-480 but by the time we located it with the camera from the other lane -- it was gone.

Here's something else I've never seen in my career.  A man who is going to be charged with a crime who is already in cuffs -- allowed to ride with a buddy across state lines so that he can turn himself in to another agency.  He wasn't going anywhere since the Iowa State Patrol knew who he was and where he lived and they made sure he didn't have access to any weapons (a baseball bat was taken out of the pickup).

Apparently, he wanted to get the case over with according to investigators and sitting overnight in an Omaha jail while warrants are filed and extradition planned didn't fit the mold.

I still can't imagine 188mph on a motorcycle and metro Interstate traffic at 6:30 at night.
