It's a wonderful fundraiser that attracts a lot of attention and money which is exactly what you want if you're The Omaha Food Bank. This weekend's 'O! What a Duck Race!' turned out big numbers again on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. There were mascots all over from Creighton's to UNO's -- from Wells Fargo and our peacock. My son certainly got a kick out of it. He also enjoyed the duck Olympics as two teamed competed in a relay race that involved balancing a duck on the head...and running with a bowl of water and a balloon. All of this was a preview for the race itself. It was quite a site to see 30,000 ducks in the water at Heartland of America Park. Like last year, the ducks didn't want to go against the current. So instead of a firehose used to push the ducks -- an airboat was in the shadows. It didn't stay there for long. In order to get the water and thus the ducks moving, the boat revved its motor and thus created a wind, a wave, and a lot of extra water that went straight for the people. Check out the mist in the picture below. Just look for the yellow. I saw a few parents scramble. Many of the kids stayed put -- enjoyed a little water on a warm day. Brian
