Tomorrow, June 27th marks two anniversaries. Most of us will remember the day a year ago as hurricane-like winds pounded the metro. Trees fell all over. Swing sets tumbled and crashed. Fences shattered. Even today, you can still see some of the damage. It's amazing how many shingles are still missing. I know a couple places where a blue tarp remains on the roof. Two people died in Council Bluffs which is tragic. It could have been so much worse though considering the damage around town and the fact that it hit just before the evening commute. The other anniversary is one that is much older and didn't impact this area. The abduction of Iowa anchorwoman Jodi Huisentruit. I worked with her at the news station in Mason City, Iowa. From the evidence, someone grabbed her and drove away as she walked to her car on her way to work the early morning shift. Saturday marks the 14th anniversary of her disappearance. To this day, no one has come forward with information about what happened. She was declared dead in 2001 but I know her family continues to have hope. I'll raise a toast to her this weekend. Brian |
