The other day I'm driving home with my son and asked him about his school day.

"It's complicated," he mused.

[Complicated?]  

If I would have been drinking something, my reaction would have been a spit-take.

I continued.

I wanted to see what else was going on in that head of his.

So I said, 'What was complicated about school today?"

"I don't have time to talk about it dad," he replied.

At this point I'm realizing that he's clearly heard others repeat these phrases.  (I don't think I've said, 'It's complicated' very often)

So I said, "What do you mean we don't have time -- we're a few minutes from home.  What else is there to do?"

His response ---

"It's complicated!"
