On Wednesday, my wife and I attended The Police concert. (I'm a big Elvis Costello fan too -- I've seen him a couple of times as a headliner) We thought the whole show was fantastic. It's hard to believe they haven't had a new album since 1982. I wanted to hear a couple of non-hits from the back catalog. They played "So Lonely" but not "Tea in the Sahara." 1-out-of-2 isn't bad. After all, they played most of their hits.
One of the reasons I convinced my wife to go to this concert is I'm old enough now to wonder if I'll ever get the chance to see them again. There are several bands that I have on the wish list. Most of them are bands that broke up before I had enough disposable income to see them -- or an unfortunate death led to either a break-up of the originals or a different sound altogether.
The Rolling Stones were on the list. I saw them on their Steel Wheels tour in Ames, Iowa. I figured there wouldn't be too many more opportunities before something happened to a band member. Who knew? They just keep on going.
I often wish I could have seen The Beatles in their prime. The same for Queen or Led Zeppelin. I caught Bob Dylan at the Civic a few years ago. My wife avoided that one. I missed Van Halen's reunion with David Lee Roth. But now, I can cross off Sting, Stewart & Andy. I'm curious -- who is on your wish list to see?
Have a nice weekend,
Brian
ps...I'll update the Neverending Playground Project on Monday or Tuesday.
