The Neverending Project

We finally decided to buy a wood playground set to put in the backyard.  We went online to compare prices and workmanship and see how others fared considering we planned to put it together ourselves.  Some people wrote that it took them between 6-8 hours to put together.  They must be miracle workers.  We're going on 12-hours, even with the help of a neighbor who's a carpenter.  I've never paid so much attention to the slope of my yard until this project.

Our son loves it even in the incomplete stage.  He offers assistance at times, loves the power tools that come with building something, and constantly asks for updates..."Is the slide next?" - "When is the rock wall going up? - "Can I swing yet?'

This is one of those sets where some of the wood is labeled -- sort of like a color by numbers.  But others pieces were not.  So I measured them and attached the corresponding number with a sticky note.  At one point, Braxton asked me if I needed these.  In his hands were about a half-dozen sticky notes that he had removed from the boards!

It's probably too late to ask for suggestions although I'd be interested in hearing them.  Especially if they'll help me finish the next project sooner.  I suspect the easy way out would have been to pay someone to do all the work.  At least this way if I find a bolt on the ground, I'll know where it belongs ;)

Enjoy the rest of your day,

Brian

As you can tell...I need to do some more digging to level out the swing.  I hope it's done before the end of the year!!!

Brian, Looks like your getting there, great job! I am not a handyman and work 4O hours or more a week. My wife is always saying we can do it, but is best to know your limitations. So I look at the project, figure my time and frustration level and ask myself is it worth it. Most of the time I hire it done. Most things are a learning process so next time you put a swing set together it will go much smoother and faster. You wrote some people did it in 6 to 8 hrs so I bet for most it took longer. Best of luck.

Brian, I don't know that our wood swingset playground was ever totally level. But it stood in our yard close to 15 years and got lots of use. Even after our boys had outgrown it, little friends would come to play in our yard. With our trees our backyard beat a sunny hot playground any day.
