The current number one movie in America reminds me of my nerdiest vacation moment.  My wife and I saw "21" last weekend.  It's the story of an MIT professor and some students who come up with an elaborate card counting system to the game of blackjack.  This is one of the cases where I had read the book and loved it.  I just didn't want to be disappointed.

There was also another reason to see it.  It goes back nearly 4 years ago to Naples, Florida.  I usually read quite a bit ocean side and one of the books on this vacation was "Bringing Down the House" -- the story the movie "21" is based on.  Here's the rub:  I had ordered the book on line and quickly devoured it a little more than a day in.  The problem: the book was missing the last couple of chapters.  I couldn't believe it.  I called the company and they admitted the printer had some issues and said they'd send another copy right away.  But remember, I'm on vacation.  I really want to see how it ends.  And I can't wait several days until I get home.

So here's nerdy moment...I look at the phone book and leave early for our dinner appointment that night.  What do you know...I strategically planned to go by a Barnes & Noble.  My wife placated me as I found a copy with the last two chapters in tact and finished it there at the store.  I'm glad I did.  The book's ending and storyline -- a little different from the movie.

Thanks for reading,

Brian

And that my friend is why Barnes and Nobles will always be one of my favorite stores, you can sit and read all day long without being hassled to buy something. It seems to me that the books are always better than the movies.
