The other day I surprised my son with a lunch time visit at his school. He told me all about the protocol -- when to grab a milk and fork and napkiin and where to throw the trash away. We even got to sit at a bigger table. My son considered it a treat. But before that, we stood in line waiting for the others. Here's the conversation I had with another kindergarten student who was interested in the adult hanging around. Kid: "Who are you?" Me: "I'm his dad." Kid: "What does it say there?" (He's pointing to my visitor name tag) Me: "It says Mr. Mastre." Kid: "I'm going to call you Mas." Me: "But that is not my name." Kid: "How about John?" Me: "That's not my name either." Kid: "So." Me: "How about I call you silly-pants." Kid: "But that's not my name." Me: "Exactly." Then it was time for lunch. |
