Fall is that crazy time of the year when it starts to get cold and then winter is here. Getting things checked out now under your hood will keep your rig running as good as it should.

Tires give traction when you drive in the slop, but they are just as important when it comes time to stop. Have them inspected, make sure they have tread or you might start to spin when it’s slick up ahead.

The battery’s job is to start up your car, but if it doesn’t work you won’t get very far. If it’s worn out, damaged or old there’s a pretty good chance it won’t work when it’s cold.

Brakes always wear out ‘cause they make lots of friction, so they need to be checked and that’s not just some fiction. Have them inspected from bottom to top and you will be happy when it comes time to stop.

Exhaust is what takes the leftover junk from inside the engine to outside your trunk. Your mechanic will lift your car up and peek to see if it’s rusty or has a big leak.

Rubber parts under the hood get cooked in the summer and having one break would be quite the bummer. Check out the belts and all of the hoses and you’ll feel a lot better from your head to your toes-es.

The coolant protects your engine from freezing and helps keep it cool to keep it from seizing. Flush the whole system if the coolant’s worn out, to keep your car running when you’re out and about.

Thick rubber mats can protect all your floors from all of the slop that your bring through your doors. Cleanup is easy if you use some of these because they can hold lots of mud and debris.

Headlights that are dingy can’t shine in the night because the dark lenses won’t let out the light. But they can be buffed to make them like new, you’ll see so good you might say woo hoo!

Other lights are important so get them checked, please don’t blow it. They might not work now and you don’t even know it. If your brake lights don't work you could get rear-ended and end up in the shop getting your vehicle mended.

Checking the fluids to make sure they’re good will extend the life of all things under the hood. The fluids used in your engine, tranny and brakes are very important on all models and makes.

Wiper blades clear your windshield so you can see and usually replacement isn’t much of a fee. Get good windshield wipers before all the snow, so you can see better wherever you go.

A whole car inspection should be done once a year to make sure it’s ready when you put it in gear. Replace anything that’s getting old and worn out and no, that’s not me that I’m talking about.

So make an appointment, right off the bat. Tell your mechanic you were sent by some “cat in a hat."
