It all starts with getting the interior cleaned up. The carpets and seats can be the source of a lot of odors because lots of grime gets ground into them over time.

Start by dry vacuuming, even under the seats. Then use a carpet cleaner to work the rest of the grime out of the carpet and upholstery cleaner for the seats. If they‘re really dirty, you might even need to have them professionally cleaned at a detail shop.

There are lots of products out there to clean the rest of the interior, from sprays to ready-to-use wipes. Cleaning all of the interior panels and the glass will not only make them look better, but it will freshen up the smell inside your vehicle as well.

Now that you have cleaned things up, treat yourself to a fresh smell every time you get into your vehicle. Here are a few of the many different types of air fresheners available:

One type of air freshener is designed to go under the seat where you won’t even see it. You simply open the package and set it in a place where it won’t be disturbed and you are good to go.

Another type is designed to be hung inside of your interior. There are lots of choices out there, so you should be able to find something that matches your personality.

Some fresheners have special clips to attach to your vent louvers, so the air blowing out of the vent actually pushes the scent of the freshener around the vehicle. Some are even adjustable, in case you want to dial the scent back down a little bit.

There is one freshener on the market that looks like a garage door opener and attaches to your visor. It has a battery operated fan inside of it to blow fresh scent into the vehicle every 15 minutes. Simply turn on the switch and let the freshener do all of the work.

If you want to freshen up your interior without going out and buying new air fresheners, you can just throw a dryer sheet under the driver’s seat. They really make a big difference and you probably have a whole box of them in your laundry room right now.
