Breakdown On Dodging Costly Brake Repairs

Brake repairs can be costly because there are a lot of parts that can be damaged, but there are ways to reduce your brake job costs in the future.

Repairs go beyond just brake pads. Things like rotors, which are what the brake pads squeeze against, can be ruined if the brake pads are not replaced on time.

One easy way to reduce your brake repair costs is to drive less aggressively. Not only is aggressive driving bad for gas mileage, it really wears your brake pads out very quickly. But if you can retrain your brain to drive a little slower and coast up to stoplights without slamming on the brakes, your brake pads are going to last a lot longer.

Are you a two foot driver? No, not talking about your height, talking about whether you press the gas with your right foot while you are pressing the brake with your left foot. This is a bad habit to have if you want your brakes to last a long time because if that left foot is constantly pressing on the brake pedal, you are going to wear your brake pads out in no time.

Another way to rack up a large brake repair bill is by ignoring some warning sounds when you are driving. If you hear a squeaking noise while you are driving and it stops when you hit the brakes, it is probably a wear indicator that is built into your brake pads. It's designed to tell you that your brake pads are getting worn out and you need to get to a mechanic to get it checked.

If you hear a bad grinding noise when you hit the brakes, that is your brake pads telling you that you should have listened to them a few weeks ago when they were just squeaking at you. At this point, the pads are usually completely worn out and they are doing some damage to the rotors.

The longer you drive with a bad grinding noise, the more expensive the repairs can be. And if you get stuck with a big bill, unfortunately the next noise that you hear will be a whimpering noise from your wallet.
